Academics

UWMC Degrees

At UWMC you'll get the liberal arts or pre-professional, freshman and sophomore curriculum needed to receive your Associate of Arts and Science Degree, to complete some degrees right on our campus, or to transfer anywhere you want to complete your degree.

We offer you:

  • small classes with an average of 25 students per class
  • dedicated, caring experienced faculty, most of whom have doctorate degrees, who are interested in your success
  • a solid academic foundation that leads to success in academics and careers
  • an Honors program that will challenge you
  • a basic skills program to prepare you for a successful university experience

Certificate programs

Certificate programs are available to UWMC students in Business, Women's Studies and International Studies. Please see an advisor in Student Services (Room 150) if you would like more information on any of these programs.

Associate of Arts and Science (AAS) Degrees

The AAS degree is the foundation for many majors and will transfer to other UW campuses, as well as other colleges and universities nationwide.

Associate of Arts and Science Degree with Emphasis

An Emphasis is a concentration of coursework in a given discipline, or area of study. UWMC offers 23 Emphases. A list of these Emphases and their requirements can be found at http://www.uwc.edu/academics/emphases/.

Bachelor's Degrees

Take the basic courses through UWMC, then either transfer to the four-year campus of your choice, or take in-person and distance education courses on our campus that lead to four-year degrees.

    • The MyTrack Program: Complete half (or more) of your bachelor's degree at UWMC or from home on this efficient path through selected majors.

    • Bachelor's Degrees in American Studies from UW-Stevens Point with classes being held at UWMC or online. Contact: Lori Brandt, UWMC program advisor at 715-261-6229.

    • Bachelor's Degrees in Business Administration from UW-Stevens Point with classes being held at UWMC or online. Contact: Lori Brandt, UWMC program advisor at 715-261-6229.

    • Bachelor's Degrees in Engineering
      Degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering are offered at UWMC through UW-Platteville. Core classes are taught by UWMC's engineering professor, and upper-level classes are streamed from UW-Platteville to UWMC via computer. Contact: Libby Heidmann, UWMC program advisor at 715-261-6242.

    • Bachelor's Degrees in Nursing
      In addition to taking classes at UWMC and then transferring to universities that offer Bachelor's degrees in nursing, area students have the following options:
      • UW-Eau Claire Nursing Marshfield Site Program
        • Students can earn their BSN by taking classes at UWMC, followed by entrance into the UW-Eau Claire Nursing Program, located at St. Joseph Hospital in Marshfield.

      • UW-Oshkosh BSN Nursing Completion Degree Program
        • Registered Nurses holding a degree from a two-year nursing program are eligible for up to 60 pre-earned credits. Additional general education credits can be earned at UWMC and online nursing classes from UW-Oshkosh will complete their bachelor's degree.
        • Clinical experiences are set up in the students' home communities.

    Guaranteed Transfer

    A smooth transfer after your freshman and sophomore years at UWMC is extremely important to you. With Guaranteed Transfer you:

    • begin your education as a freshman at UWMC and are guaranteed admission to a UW System campus as a junior.
    • fulfill certain credit and grade point average requirements, and will then transfer with the same rights and privileges as those who began their education at the campus you choose.
