Spring Meeting - April 11, 2006

 

Present:  J. Case, N. Grossnickle, C. Hemenway, M. Holdhusen, T. Koupelis, M. Maheswaran, K. Montgomery, L. Pech, K. Prahl, S. Sargent, D. Stremlau, P. Whitaker, P. Workman

 

Opening:   PW opened the meeting at 4:05 PM.

 

1.  Elections:

Divisional committee representatives were elected as follows:

Budget Committee/Division Chair (term ends 2008)             Hemenway

Evaluations (term ends 2008)                                                  Pech

Promotion & Tenure (term ends 2008)                                  Fox

Research & Prof. Devt. (term ends 2007)                              Workman

2.  Request for input on new LEC 100 section focusing on science success skills:

Koupelis described a new LEC 100 section he is developing with a focus on basic scientific, mathematical, and reasoning skills foundational to student success in science courses.  He solicited suggestions for topics or skills to be included as course topics.

 

3.  Update on campus shared reading program:

Whitaker reported that plans continue for implementation of our first campus shared reading program using the book Affluenza.  The committee is encouraging as many faculty/instructors as possible to include mention or discussion the book in their courses.  To facilitate that, a document identifying course connections for as many courses as possible has been developed for each division.  Pech developed the guide for the natural sciences division.  Whitaker will circulate this document for your consideration.
