In online classes, the student and instructor communicate with each other using email and a web site. To take one of these courses, students must have access to the Internet either at home, work or school.
In addition, students must be proficient at using email and web browsing. Technology requirements include having access to a relatively powerful computer that is capable of handling multi-media presentations.
Online courses are generally not self-paced courses. Students are required to complete homework and other individual and group activities by specific dates and times. In addition, some instructors may require students to participate in online discussions at specific times, and may require proctored exams.
