Objectives:

Art 101 and 102 will further the basic language of drawing. Drawing will be explored through a variety of approaches, processes and experimentation. This class will develop the students understanding of constructing a drawing both physically as well as conceptually. The student is expected to address and embrace different genres of the traditional vocabulary of drawing ( still life, landscape, figure and interior, abstraction - both non-objective & referential, expressionism). The classroom will be expanded by museum trips, gallery trips, film/videos, slide lectures and demonstrations. This course is not designed to offer solutions rather its objective is to offer options. Through the course of the semester a wide range of mediums and techniques will be introduced and experimented with. Both traditional and nontraditional subject matter will be stressed. The drawings that result from the activity of this course should be seen as byproducts of research. It is imperative that everyone of you approaches the activities and exercises of the course with a completely open mind.
