University of Wisconsin - Marathon County
Why attend UWMC and play basketball?
UWMC is located in Wausau, Wisconsin. As one of the thirteen University
of Wisconsin Colleges, we are members of the Wisconsin Collegiate Conference
and along with the Vocational Technical Colleges belong to the Wisconsin
Junior College Athletic Association. We are highly respected academically,
as students earn University of Wisconsin credits transferable to any college
in the country. Students leave UWMC assured of two rigorously challenging
years of solid preparation for their major. Basketball players leave UWMC
having had the opportunity to play in nearly 50 games in two seasons and
will have been seen by any number of coaches from 4 year schools.
These are exciting times at the University of Wisconsin Marathon County!
We won the 1998-99 Wisconsin Collegiate Conference Championship - the school's
first in nearly 30 years. Two of our captains from that team, Matt
Kock and Greg Arnett (both from Lakeland H.S., Minocqua, WI) are attending
Lawrence University and playing basketball. Our academic facilities
recently received a $7.2 million improvement, and in 1997 we celebrated
50 years of men's basketball at the Marathon campus.
Here are some reasons to attend the UW Marathon County:
-
smaller class sizes than four year campuses.
-
guaranteed transfer insures you a place at a UW institution.
-
new and improved associate degree!
-
tuition costs are the lowest in the UW System (1998: $1070/semester).
-
$7.2 million improvements to the campus completed January 1997.
And here are some reasons to consider playing basketball for the Huskies:
-
you are given the opportunity to play immediately with no red-shirting,
no sitting behind upperclassmen.
-
you have the freedom to move on to a four year program that wants you,
after you've proven yourself at the college level;
-
each year the top players in our league move into the WIAC, Lake Michigan,
and Midwest Conferences.
-
an experienced coaching staff that has been involved in over 300 games
at the junior college level, including four conference and three state
championships.
-
excellent athletic facilities; our olympic-sized swimming pool and superb
spring- mounted hardwood basketball court are the envy of all who visit
our facility.
